Rumor: Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabrio in the works

2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet

As you may know already, Mercedes-Benz is currently working on the C-Class Coupe, a new car designed to take on Bmw 1-Series Coupe and the Bmw 3-Series Coupe. But it appears this is now the only move made by the German manufacturer, as report continue to appear on the web regarding a C-Class Convertible. The new vehicle will partially replace the popular CLK Cabrio, which was part C-Class (chassis) and part E-Class (price), but will also go on sale alongside Mercedes´ new E-Class Convertible, introduced at the Detroit Auto Show.

The C-Class Convertible will be introduced as a 2011 model and, like the new E-Class Convertible, will use a cloth folding top instead of the heavier and more complicated retractable hardtop used by Bmw on the 3-Series Coupe and by the Infiniti G37 Convertible.

There is an advantage in this soft top because it will help the German manufacturer to keep the price down. Regarding the engines this new car will get, it appears that the new family of direct-injected DOHC V6s, which includes a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated version and a smaller unit with twin turbochargers will make its debut on the C-Class Convertible. An AMG version of the new car is also considered as Bmw sells many M3 coupes and convertible than the M3 sedans.
