Rumor: Mercedes-Benz E-Class Shooting Brake in the works

Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake

There are reports saying that the German carmaker Mercedes-Benz is preparing a production model of the three-door estate called the Fascination Concept which was initially showcased at the Paris Motor Show last year. The model will further broaden the range of the carmaker as it expands the E-Class to a new total of five variants including the coupe, convertible, estate and saloon. It will be launched in 2011. Originally a preview of the E-Class Coupe, the Fascination Concept is a distinctive model with its angularly designed front section and its unique wheelarches.

Recent news, however, suggests that it could become a standalone vehicle. The car will come with a powerplant lineup that will include highly economical four-cylinder and V6 diesel units.

Offered are BlueEFFICIENCY technology, and four-cylinder gasoline units will be equipped with stop-start technology. The top of the range E500 that is powered by a 5.5-liter V8 will also be available together with a variant from Mercedes' in-house tuning specialist AMG. Come September, the standard estate will be showcased at the Frankfurt motor show, with the convertible model soon to follow, although the sporty E-Class still has several years until its release.
