Rumor: Toyota FT-86 design to be changed
By Andrew C., 26 Aug, 2010. 0 Comments
Instead of the original FT-86 design seen at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show and the 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon (designed by Toyota's Europe Design Development ED¬≤), Toyota now favors the alternative design by Toyota's North American design studio (Calty Design Research), according to Publication Holiday Autos. Toyota picked Calty's FT-86 version over the ED¬≤ design and another design by Toyota's Japanese design team (Toyota Technical Center). Continued after the jump! Reports show that the ED¬≤ design got rejected last November, a month after the original debut of the FT-86 Concept at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. The designs by Calty and Toyota Technical Center were the finalists. The basic elements of the FT-86 are reportedly in its new form and are all ready, except for a few minor items that will be finalized this March. The FT-86 design by Calty has less aggressively carved and curved surfaces, features more overhangs, and has a higher front fascia. Wheelbase and physical dimensions were unchanged. With regards to the Subaru version of the FT-86, there won‚Äôt as many differences as previously reported. There will only be badge and option differences. Calty has produced the FT-HS concept, so it‚ likely that the new FT-86 design will be stunning as well. [via ft86club]
