Rumor: Volkswagen Up! city car to cost around €9000
Volkswagen will be making a sizeable profit on each model sold of its soon-to-be-released city car, the Up!, according to Autocar sources. The Up! is being marketed as an alternative to the Peugeot 107, Citroen C1, and Toyota Aygo.
Cost to build the Up! at its Indian assembly plant is said to total about 900 euro. Since VW is intending to sell the Up! for about 9000 Euro, it can be safely said that the company stands to earn a significant profit on each sale. Around 1.4 million units, including the VW Up! and Skoda and Seat variants, are expected to be manufactured this year. The 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show was the venue that first displayed the Up!. It is being pushed in the market as below the Polo in the VW range but is being set up as more of a replacement for the phased-out Lupo than the current Fox. Up! variants have been spotted at numerous motor shows, including the four-door Space Up! and electric Space Up! Blue. Photo gallery after the jump!
