With the possibility that Volkswagen would be taking over Ducati, there are many speculations swirling about how the Ducati product would change. These discussions stemmed from a recent article in an Italian online magazine that mentioned the takeover of Ducati. It can be recalled that it was 1985 when Volkswagen executive Ferdinand Piech attempted to acquire Ducati, which at that time was suffering financially. No official sales figures have been released but it wouldn’t take such a stretch of imagination to think that Ducati must be under the same plight of other major motorcycle companies. According to a motorcycle industry group, Ducati sales in Australia year-to-date dropped 13% over the same period last year. In January, the management and owners of Ducati took a 10% pay cut and even gave up their future bonuses due to the economic crisis. [via clutchandchrome]
