Saab denies a possible cooperation with Volvo on producing a new model

Saab was quick to deny reports that it’s about to collaborate with Volvo Car Corp. on producing a new model. Saab clarified that there had been no talks with Saab with regards to product development. An earlier report from Swedish business daily Dagens Industri had indicated that Volvo, which was recently purchased by China's Zhejiang Geely, wants to cooperate with Saab to build softtop convertibles. The publication had cited its source to be Volvo spokesman Olle Axelson, who later told Reuters that Volvo hasn’t actually met up with Saab over product development but that the company is always open to discussions with other carmakers.
Axelson was quoted to have said that Volvo’s top priority is its China operations. Meanwhile, Saab Nederland spokesman Dick Braakhekke asserted that it is too early for talks of a cooperation between Saab and Volvo on a new model.
Braakhekke said that there are talks on different levels (such as logistics on parts delivery) but he hasn’t heard of discussions with regards to a product. Braakhekke also said that Saab is also talking to other manufacturers. These two companies are said to be in similar situations as they both have new owners and they’re also studying options to raise sales and come up with a more efficient production strategy.
