Saab sale to be reached in the summer of this year

Saab 9X Bio Hybrid ConceptLast month there were 27 in the list of potential buyers, but the Swedish automaker Saab says that it has narrowed that down to two or three and expects the sale to be reached in the summer of this year.

Rumors that GM was going to maintain Saab because of the forecasted success of the 2010 9-5 was silenced by the carmaker in a webcast this morning. GM has pledged that whoever will own Saab will receive support for the upcoming 9-5 and 9-4 models, but seeing GM at the helm of an emerging Saab is already out of the question. The remaining bidders for Saab remain unidentified still, but Fiat has openly shown interest in joining forces with the European arm of GM, which includes Opel and Saab. Fiat has also discussed its intention to purchase Saab with the Swedish government. Other identified buyers include the Chinese automaker Geely and Koenigsegg, the Swedish super car maker. Some European investors and private entities have also shown interest in Saab. If Saab is sold this summer, it would be on schedule for the company’s forecasted spin-off date since after it filed for reorganization it scheduled a deadline for the attainment of a sale in June.
