Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ are being recalled because of a typo in the owner’s manual, specifically the “smart” airbags in the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ. The system determines the occupants’ weight in the passenger seat and it then disables the airbags for children or small adults. It isn’t clear in the owner’s manual what the circumstances are of disabling the passenger airbag. According to a Subaru spokesman, the recall would simply require the pasting of a new page over the old one in the owner’s manual. This problem affects around 400 Subaru BRZ models that were already sold and 1,200 units that were about to be delivered. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration posted on its Web site that the recall involves 1,156 units of the Scion FR-S. There have been reports that a technical service bulletin has been issued with regards to the fit-and-finish of the Scion FR-S. Several customers said that the body panels on the new car aren’t flush. The problem is already being investigated by Scion and Toyota. According to some owners, the car’s taillights have moisture. This is another issue that the automaker is monitoring.
