Scion FR-S Turbo caught testing at Laguna Seca

Scion FR-S Turbo

The Scion FR-S prototype was recently spied at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The Subaru-derived 200-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder 4U-GSE boxer appears to have been tweaked to produce more horsepower as it’s obvious that this white car was turbocharged. This vehicle is part of the Toyota-Subaru collaboration to make the U.S. bound 2013 Scion FR-S and its Subaru BRZ twin.

It can be concluded that since both the white-winged car and the car behind it were FR-S models, this could be the Scion drift team undergoing some testing before the 2012 season. Scion is heavy into drifting and it is supporting a campaign for a tC modified to rear drive particularly for the team. The FR-S is likely to take over as the Scion drift team star.

But first, the FR-S would require more power for its drift. Drift fans will be excited to know that the FR-S turbo sighting is good news for and all those who already can’t wait for a higher spec version of the FR-S. As the base FR-S and BRZ won’t start selling in base form until the middle of next year, there won’t be any turbocharged production model until the later part of 2012. [source: MotorTrend]
