Scion has no plans for a hybrid model

2010 Scion xBToyota has no immediate plans to offer a hybrid system in its Scion line of vehicles. The focus would continue to be on making vehicles that are priced lower than $20,000.

Scion vice president Jack Hollis told Wards Auto that the youth brand may still consider hybrid powertrains for future models, but that the added cost of today’s hybrid systems won’t be aligned with Scion’s value image. Hollis said that the company believes that from a pricing structure, hybrids fit into the Toyota lineup better than the Scion lineup. There has been speculation that the Toyota FT-Ch would arrive in Scion showrooms, but Hollis denied this. He said that Scion would want to have a totally differentiating hybrid, something that it has yet to create. Scion is still considering all-wheel drive models. Hollis did not say when Scion’s first AWD model might appear. He disclosed that the offering would use an AWD system from partner Subaru. Hollis seems to hinting at the possibility of the Toyota FT-86 concept arriving in showrooms as the next Scion tC. An all-new Scion tC is set to arrive by the end of this year.
