Scion iQ making its North American debut by 2011

Scion IQ Concept

Scion is preparing an Americanized version of the iQ and will probably be available for the North American market by the end of 2010 or early 2011. The new model is expected to cost no more than the Toyota Yaris and will receive some predictable updates for the American market like extended bumpers and recalibrated airbags. In terms of powerplant we have no confirmation with regards to which will be used for America, we just now that the new iQ will surely not receive a hybrid engine due to high costs and packaging reasons. It is also confirmed that the Big Wheels body kit revealed on the conceptual Scion iQ at the New York Auto Show will not be available in America as standard equipment. Toyota had also revealed a FT-EV electric concept, inspired on the iQ mini car, but it seems that even is shown off this year at Detroit Auto Show, it will not hit the market before 2012. Probably they will take some time to decide whether to use lithium ion units or nickel metal hybrid batteries.
