Scion VP Jack Hollis has great plans for the distant future even as the automaker is currently busy with the launch of its iQ mini-car as well as with preparations for the anticipated surge in exposure related to the FR-S sports car. Hollis said during the SEMA Show that the company is working on various concepts. He declined to provide more details about these concepts but then, Scion has two models that are due to be overhauled very soon. In addition, the brand is hoping to widen its product offering. Hollis has said during previous interviews that he is hoping to offer a mini-truck that’s compact and is based on a car.
In particular, he said that this model will be one size smaller than the Toyota Tacoma. He said that it isn’t the No. 1 priority but he is “very interested” in it. Hollis already has a plan for a model that could change into something that’s a lot like the Toyota-Subaru tie-up that made the FR-S (FT-86/BRZ). He said initially that he sought to carry over a small truck from Daihatsu (a Toyota subsidiary) but then, there’s no business case for it due to the regulations that it would have to meet.
What Hollis wants to do now is to collaborate with Daihatsu. Hollis thinks that the Scion brand has room for more models in the compact and sub-compact range. He also said that he sees a trend towards small cars. [source: Autoguide]
