Scion plans to introduce two new products that would likely have a stronger US influence. Currently, only one of Scion's three US vehicles was designed and engineered in the US. Yoshi Inaba, president of Toyota Motor North America Inc., said that since Scion is pretty much a North American brand, he believes that it's very natural to think that more development, more design work, should be done in North America.
In an interview last Tuesday at the Detroit Auto Show, Inaba said that Toyota recognizes the importance of Scion. He also said that the Scion should be more locally developed and that influenced is a better word. Last summer, Inaba had returned as president of Toyota Motor North America after running Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. from 1999 to 2003. He had retired from back in 2007 but had been brought back as part of the management team installed by Toyota Motor Corp.'s new CEO, Akio Toyoda, to revive the company.
