‘SEAT al Sol’ scheme adds more than 20,000 photovoltaic panels

The first phase of SEAT’s scheme to establish itself as a leader in solar power generation in Spain has recently been completed. This project, dubbed the ‘SEAT al Sol’, is developed jointly with Gestamp Solar with a plan for even larger-scale generation of clean electricity for on-site consumption at the modern Martorell car plant. SEAT has confirmed that it has completed the installation of over 20,000 solar panels to form giant photovoltaic electricity generating plants. The panels can produce about six million kWh of clean solar electricity annually.
The panels cover a total surface area of 135,000 square meters (33 acres) and they are installed on workshop roofs and vehicle holding areas. With these panels, the SEAT plant at Martorell makes a major contribution to the environment by cutting CO2 emissions of around 2,800 tons per year.
This corresponds to CO2 emissions of more than 2,300 Ibiza E Ecomotives. And since SEAT UK’s Ibiza E Ecomotive sales totaled to just under 1,600 last year, it means the solar power scheme offsets the CO2 emissions of all of those cars. This effectively makes the SEAT Ibiza Ecomotive sold here last year fully carbon neutral. As an added benefit , the solar facilities in the vehicle holding areas both generate renewable energy and protect new SEATs from the weather.
