The latest news shows a Seat Ibiza making a new record for average fuel consumption of 2.9 l/100 km ( 81.1mpg ) and with only one tank full of fuel reach a remarkable range of 970.6 miles. The hood and the mouth of the gas tank of the Ibiza Ecomotive were sealed and Gerhard Plattner drove the car from the Martorell facilities near Barcelona through France and to a pre-assigned finishing point in Frankfurt with the tank still containing fuel.

From there the Ibiza was brought to Gottingen, even though the record has already been set at Frankfurt, where the seals were removed. To achieve such a remarkable feat, the Ecomotive has received some enhancements over the regular version, including revisions to its 1.4 TDI powerplant, weight-saving measures and a highly optimized aerodynamics.
