The Spanish brand Seat has started work on a future vehicle with sustainable electric power which it will present to the Spanish government in a special event at the Seat Technical Center. Patterned after the Seat Leon, this Twin Drive Ecomotive experimental model will run on lithium-ion battery in urban settings while an gasoline-powered engine activates for journeys of longer durations. The vehicle's power is 35 kW (47 hp) and attains an electronically limited maximum speed of 100 km/h. Presently, it has a maximum range of 50 km attained from one full charge of the battery, which Seat acknowledges requires a lot of improvement if the 2014 production deadline is to be successfully met. Seat aims to produce eco-friendly vehicles run totally on electric power. Present at the occasion was Francisco Garcia Sanz, member of Volkswagen Executive Committee and Chairman of Seat's Board of Directors as well as Seat Chairman Erich Schmitt.
