Second-gen Skoda GreenLine models coming to the 2010 Paris Motor Show

2010 Skoda Superb Greenline

Skoda’s second generation of its eco-friendly GreenLine vehicles will be showcased at the Paris Auto Show. The GreenLine models feature two modern diesel engines (the 75 hp 1.2 liter TDI and the 105hp 1.6 liter TDI), the Stop-Start technology and the braking energy recovery system. This lineup has also received a modified engine control unit, tires with low rolling resistance, aerodynamics tweaks for the body and chassis, a gear change recommendation indicator on the dashboard and others.

The Stop-Start system is claimed to reduce fuel consumption by up to 10% and the vehicles become even more fuel-efficient when in congested city traffic. According to the press release, the noiseless vehicles offer zero emissions and as the driver waits at traffic lights, the engine is automatically switched off.

The braking energy recovery system acts by repoling the generator, enabling a portion of the kinetic energy to return to the battery as electricity. The press release further emphasizes Skoda’s “long-term commitment to environmental friendliness and sustainable development.” Skoda said that its GreenLine products and GreenLine technologies have helped the automotive industry to cut its environmental impacts and “give every driver a chance to join the climate-saving mission.”
