How far can the Impreza WRX go utilizing components from the Subaru Genuine Accessory and SPT (Subaru Performance Tuning) catalogs? Far enough, it turns out. Subaru chose the best from both catalogs to come up with a merger of performance, styling and user technology that any buff could easily imitate all at once or by putting parts over time. The result is a vehicle that makes a special performance and design statement even as it preserves the true everyday drivability character and value of the WRX. The 2009 Impreza WRX is factory outfitted with a standard Aero Body Kit, so superficial modifications were limited to a front lip spoiler by STI and Subaru genuine Accessory fog light protectors. The lowered posture is provided by STI performance springs and Botticelli III 19x8-in. wheels by OZ Racing. A lower chassis brace and strut tower brace from the SPT catalog completes the chassis improvements. Subaru improved the WRX's 2.5-liter intercooled turbo Boxer engine to 265 hp 244 lb.-ft. for 2009; this particular WRX raises that to 275 hp and 250 lb.-ft. with a SPT cat-back exhaust. The driver can take advantage of vehicle‚ power through the assistance of an STI short-throw shifter. The under-hood area gets a visual enhancement with an SPT oil cap, turbo heat shield and battery hold-down.
