These models include the restored 1993 "Ludacris Legend" sedan, a sport-modified MY2016 Acura ILX by Galpin Auto Sports, the new Acura NSX supercar, and a MY2016 Acura ILX with the Acura Genuine Accessory Package in Slate Silver Metallic.
With the support of Acura's Torrance-based Design Studio and guidance of Acura global creative director Dave Marek, the marque was able to fully restore an Acura vehicle owned by Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, a multi-platinum selling, GRAMMY award-winning artist and actor.
This highly personalized vehicle, the 1993 Acura "Ludacris Legend" sedan, was featured on Ludacris’ ninth studio album, LUDAVERSAL. According to Marek, the restoration of the Ludacris Legend was a great way for Acura to celebrate the passion and love of loyal customers for the brand.
He added that the restoration project, which took two months to complete, is a great way to express Acura's passion for performance.
Acura’s restoration of the Ludacris Legend was so flawless that onlookers would think that it is fresh out of factory, and of course, styled and customized according to the celebrity’s preferences.
The restored vehicle, however, was given some minor modifications like the 18-inch Rays wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza High-Performance 215/40R/18 tires.
Moreover, the restored vehicle now features custom high-performance six-piston front caliper and four-piston rear caliper brakes.
Likewise, Acura upgraded the sedan’s Pioneer AVIC 8/ONEX sound system by integrating Apple CarPlay and by adding two Alpine Type-12 subwoofer speakers in the trunk with custom Acura badging.
For an imposing stance, the Legend now sits two inches lower thanks to H&R springs and Eibach camber kit. Acura also did additional work to the frame, body and chassis to make sure that the Ludacris Legend would still be able to run in the years to come.
Of course, the restored Legend retains its original aesthetic – brought to life by Acura Design’s custom Warm Cashmere with Ice Pearl paint scheme.
Upon seeing that his beloved Legend is now fully restored, Ludacris remarked that what Acura did was a real gift, thanking the carmaker for the project. His fans can follow the Legend’s build progress and reveal leading up to SEMA 2015 on Acura (@Acura) and Ludacris' (@Ludacris) social media channels and by using the hashtag #LegendaryDuo.
On the other hand, Galpin Auto Sports customized for Acura an MY2016 Acura ILX sedan that will be donated at the conclusion of the SEMA conference to the Ludacris Foundation, which aims to inspire young people through education and memorable experiences so that they can realize and live their dreams.
Acura’s ILX gateway sedan was refreshed for the 2016 model year, and now features a new 200hp 2.4-liter direct-injected i-VTEC engine mated to an eight-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT). Meanwhile, the Acura ILX by Galpin ILX is packed with a slew of modifications as well as custom body work.
This rendition of the Acura ILX features a new front bumper with accent front splitter, custom rear diffuser with JDM Fog Light and a custom exhaust exit with rear spoiler.
Galpin also modified the ILX’s modification to include RS-R Sports i coilovers and a Borla exhaust with custom dual tips. It comes with 19 x 8.5-inch AVI wheels (in a sinister Matte Brushed Smoked finish) covered in Pirelli 245/30/19P Zero Run Flat Tires.
The wheels are accentuated by black brakes. Since the Acura ILX by Galpin is connected to the Ludacris Legend, there is a need to visually link the two Acura vehicles. Thus, Galpin matched the paintwork of the Ludacris Legend by painting the ILX with a Sunburst Yellow color and Shark Gray accents -- using a three-stage candy paint process.
This color scheme continues inside the cabin of the ILX, which is accentuated by gold contrast stitching. The interior also features Katzkin perforated Barracuda leather inserts.
On the other matter, Acura is also presenting the next-generation NSX, which features a Nouvelle Blue Pearl paint scheme.
This color scheme was unveiled on a highly modified Galpin TLX at SEMA 2014. Nouvelle Blue Pearl will be one of eight colors that Acura will introduce next spring along with the new NSX supercar.
This new generation NSX is powered by a Sport Hybrid power unit, featuring three electric motors and a bespoke twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter DOHC V-6 engine that develops 573 hp of max output and 550 lb.-ft. of peak torque.
Thanks to continuous electric motor torque vectoring, this system allows the NSX to instantaneously use the torque from the electric motors to instantly boost its performance in terms of acceleration, braking and turning. With its three-motor Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system, this new Acura NSX features will be able to deliver a superb supercar experience.
Interestingly, the NSX is the first and only supercar designed and developed in America with global development led by an R&D team in the United States. Meanwhile, Acura is also showing off a MY2016 Acura ILX enhanced with Acura’s Genuine Accessory Package.
Wrapped in Slate Silver Metallic, this MY2016 Acura ILX is endowed with an array of factory accessories specially developed for the ILX and available through Acura dealers. The Genuine Acura Accessory package, as featured on the 2016 ILX at SEMA 2015, includes an aero kit comprised of front, side, rear spoilers, as well as a decklid spoiler.
It also includes rear bumper applique, remote engine starter and LED fog lights as well as 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Additionally, the package includes all-season floor mats, illuminated door sill trim and chrome door trim.
According to Jon Ikeda, vice president and general manager of Acura, the Japanese luxury brand has chosen the SEMA as a platform to showcase some of its wonderful, challenging and crazy dreams for the future of the marque.
He described SEMA as a place where people from the auto industry converge and share their vision of personalization and performance. He noted that SEMA is a great event to showcase new expressions of Acura’s passion for performance and customization.
