At this year’s SEMA Show, Hyundai will show us the latest customization programme developed for the Hyundai Equus flagship sedan. Dubbed RMR Signature Edition Equus, the new car will be refined by Rhys Millen Racing and promises to reveal a new exterior, interior and performance upgrades that will enhance the already luxurious sedan.
The exterior will include carbon mirrors, front lip spoiler and rear deck spoilers. BASF will create a special two-tone carbon fiber and Red Bull Racing blue satin clear paint, while the design will be completed by the HRE 21-inch P40 wheels.
The V8 engine which delivers 385 hp in the production version, will get new air intake and exhaust, that will bring 30 hp.
This means that the V8 engine will deliver a total output of 415 hp. Furthermore, due to the power increase, the car will receive a 14-inch brake kit designed to tame the 415 horses. Inside, we will find embroidered headrests and floor mats, and ostrich hide leather seats with suede accents.
In 2010, Hyundai and Rhys Millen Racing unveiled their partnership for the U.S. Rallycross Championship. Millen, an accomplished rally/drift driver, got behind the helm of a specifically-designed Hyundai Rally car as his part of the alliance.
Rhys Millen came from good race driver stock. His father was Rod Millen, who had also made a name for himself in the off-road and rally racetracks. Rhys originally resided in New Zealand from his birth in 1972 to his teenage years.
However, he followed his father to the United States as he became a teenager where, not surprisingly, he followed after Rod’s footsteps and became a racer as well. Rhys’ earliest achievements included taking the top spot in the Open Division of Pikes Peak Hill Climb.
He also won Rookie of the Year in his first foray into the industry. Aside from racing, Millen also worked as stuntman for movies that require stunt driving. He became a name to be reckoned with in Pikes Peak, where he set a world record. In the 2000s, he won a Formula Drift championship in 2005.
In 2008, he succeeded in securing the Red Bull World Championship in Drifting. That same year, he also performed his ultimately famous New Year’s Eve Las Vegas truck flip.
Millen began his collaboration with Hyundai in 2009, when he sat on the cockpit of a Hyundai Genesis Coupe for the Time Attack challenge for 2WD race cars at the Pikes Peak International Hill.
His performance set a new record in the class. Millen and Hyundai also collaborated in 2010 to create the Hyundai Genesis PM580 built specifically for the racer. The PM580 was exhibited to the general public during the 2010 SEMA Show.
