Seven of the ten best-selling passenger vehicles in China in 2011 were produced by either U.S. carmaker General Motors Co. or German automaker Volkswagen AG, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. Running ahead of the pack was GM’s Buick Excelle with sales of 254,000 units. VW’s Lavida came in second followed by GM’s Chevrolet Cruze.
The fourth to sixth spots were taken by VW’s models -- Jetta, Bora and Santana. GM’s Chevrolet New Sail took seventh place. Rounding up the last three slots were China FAW Group Co.'s Xiali, the Hyundai Elantra Yuedong and the Ford Focus. The top ten best-sellers, all compact cars, recorded sales of around 2.1 million units in China.
However, the top best-seller among all cars in China in 2011 was the Wuling Sunshine commercial microvan of SAIC-GM-Wuling, with sales of 731,700 units. Three other commercial microvans also outsold the Excelle. [source: Autonews]
