A limited edition track day version of the Ford Shelby GT is being offered by Ford and Shelby after forty years of collaborative on the iconic Mustang. Both companies will celebrate the 1965 SCCA championship of Jerry Titus and the last production model of the present generation Mustang with the offering of up to 37 total 550 hp Shelby GT “R Model” which are priced at $134,995 each.
The reason for this number, explained by the founder of Shelby Automobiles, Carroll Shelby, is that in 1965 they built 37 units of the small block “R Model” race-only versions of the Shelby GT350 Mustang, which they will feature as a “Jerry Titus Drivers Edition” in honor of his win in 1965 “B Production” championship (a first for the Mustang.) It was Jerry Titus who propelled the Mustang to dominate the track and into world renown. Now, in collaboration with Ford, they are going to build the latest track day “R Model” version of the Ford Shelby GT which will deliver high performance and exhilarating driving experience. The car, which cannot be registered for the street, will come with the same 4.6-liter V8 that powers every Ford Shelby GT. Extra power boost will emanate from the Ford Racing/Whipple Twin Screw intercooled supercharger fitted by Shelby and coupled to a T6060 GT500-based 6-speed transmission. The “R Model” us NASA “American Iron Extreme” qualified and is a superb all-around track sports car. It will be finished in white with silver stripes and recorded in the Shelby Registry.
