The 50th anniversary of Shelby American is being commemorated with the release of a special-edition car unveiled at the Detroit auto show. Shelby will only build 50 white samples and 50 black samples of this limited-edition vehicle. Former race driver Carroll Shelby had founded the Shelby American, a performance-car maker and converter. The products of this Las Vegas-based company include the Cobra performance car and GT350, GT500, Super Snake and GTS conversion packages for the existing Ford Mustang. In a statement, Shelby said that “few” believed that the company would be successful and that it would still be in business for 50 years.
He said that the first Cobra was built in a rented garage and that the company then moved on to build the GT350s in an old hangar. He said that the company continues to thrive and roll out the “best cars” it has ever made. Gold stripes will be painted on the special editions to mark its 50th anniversary. In addition, every car will receive a golden-anniversary badging, a customized interior, six-piston Wilwood front brakes, special wheels, and a car cover. It will have a vehicle identification number that will be recorded in the official Shelby registry. The Shelby factory in Las Vegas will include museum delivery.
The GT500 anniversary model is available in coupe and convertible body styles. Buyers could also choose from 650 hp, 750 hp and 800 hp. The brakes and suspension of the production Ford Mustang were improved by Shelby, which also updated its style. The gold stripes would be a one-year option. The GT500 anniversary package is priced at $59,995 (excluding the cost of a donor car). Shelby will also enhance the GT350 as part of its anniversary. The GT350, which is based on the 5.0-liter GT Ford Mustang, could be upgraded to 525 hp or 624 hp. Shelby also put in Le Mans-style stripes and larger brakes. The GT350 is available as either a coupe or a convertible. The lowest of the three custom packages can be available with an automatic transmission. The higher packages are only offered with a manual transmission. A $59,995 price tag has been attached to the GT350 anniversary package (excluding the cost of a donor car). The GTS upgrade, which could be used on the GT and V-6 Mustangs, has a price tag of $19,995. It received upgrades on its brakes, suspension, tune and look.
