Singapore-based businessman Peter Lim makes significant investment in McLaren

McLaren Automotive, a sports vehicle manufacturer based in the United Kingdom, disclosed that Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim has made a "significant investment" in the company. With this, he becomes part of the company’s board immediately. Lim has been recently ranked eight on Singapore’s rich list by Forbes Asia, with a fortune of around $1.8 billion mainly coming from investments.
According to Ron Dennis, who is McLaren Group and McLaren Automotive’s executive chairman, Lim’s reputation in Asia as a highly respected business leader enhances the quality further of the company’s board “in this highly competitive business environment at an exciting time.”
The company has disclosed that the demand for the MP4-12C, which is its new McLaren sports vehicle, is strong with retailers in the Asia Pacific region confirming orders accounting for about 18 months of production. In addition, the McLaren Group runs a Formula One team. In 2010, Lim has made a bid to purchase Liverpool Football Club for 320 million pound ($525.5 million). However, he later withdrew the offer after the club became the property of New England Sports Ventures after a court ruling. Separately, Lim has exclusive rights to own and operate a chain of Manchester United-themed bars and restaurants in Asia.
