Skoda Octavia vRS Bonneville

The Octavia vRS of ŠKODA’s has become the newest model to enter the famous 200 mph club of Bonneville. This 500 bhp ‘salt spec’ challenger, which was built to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iconic vRS performance flagship badge, charged through the 200 mph barrier, four days earlier than it was scheduled. By doing so, this vehicle has become the fastest ŠKODA in history. It has been penned as the “vRS Bonneville Special” This vehicle has attained a stunning 195.69 mph on its first run of the day. On its sixth official outing at Bonneville Speed Week (13-20), the Octavia vRS pushed itself to an impressive 202.15 mph.

The brand’s UK technical team, who prepped the vehicle in Milton Keynes, arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah, ahead of the event in order to finalize the months of preparation and hard work. In a world where traction loss is your nemesis and bhp is king, the vehicle went through an intensive dyno program with the aid of performance software and tuning outfit specialist REVO Technik. With journalist Richard Meaden on the wheel, the Octavia had showcased its potential on Sunday, August 14, as it zoomed its way to 191 mph, securing all four speed licenses necessary before attempting to hit the 200 mph barrier.

ŠKODA UK’s Director Robert Hazelwood commented that months of intensive tests and preparations have “all been worthwhile.” Hazelwood shared that they took the Octavia vRS past the 200 mph barrier on August 15 at 13:24. The event marks another milestone in the brand’s motorsport accomplishments. This is also a great way to commemorate a decade of the vRS lineup as well as the 110 years of ŠKODA’s motorsport participation. For the last four days in the event, the team has been focusing on closing the gap on the 2.0-litre production car record that stands at 216 mph.
