Skoda’s new Rapid compact sedan will arrive in Europe in 2012. It was recently recognized as the “Family Car of the Year” in India – which is the lone major market that presently offers the vehicle. Amid the debt crisis in Europe, the market is looking for practical and affordable models such as the Renault Duster as well as the Skoda Octavia and Rapid. But Skoda was only able to launch the Citigo this year.
Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, the chairman of Skoda’s board, said that the company is “delighted” that the Rapid was given the award days before it is officially launched in Europe.
He added that Skoda aims to significantly accelerate its global growth in the coming years. The market in India is considered to have a central role in this strategy. The Rapid competes in the biggest vehicle segment in India.
