Skoda teams up with Red Bull to appear in S-WRC

Juho Hänninen

After winning the 2010 International Rally Challenge, Škoda Motorsport has become part of Red Bull Škoda, a new team based on the brand's partnership with the top-class company Red Bull and its connection with the private team, Baumschlager Rally Racing (BRR). Both of the new team's crews, IRC champions Juho Hänninen & Mikko Markkula of Finland and Germany's young hope Hermann Gassner Jr. & Katharina Wüstenhagen, are set to compete in the 2011 S-WRC. Michal Hrabánek, head of Škoda Motorsport said the company is "pleased that it can contribute to further growth of the Fabia Super 2000 project as part of Red Bull and BRR."

Hrabánek added that the BRR team led by Raimund Baumschlager, a nine-time Austrian Rally Champion and the buyer of the first Fabia Super 2000 vehicle the company sold, is a “guarantee of a top-class background and a highly professional approach.”

Under Baumschlager's leadership, the Red Bull Rally team has been using a Fabia Super 2000 in world-class competitions in the last two years and has made significant achievements with this car, including, several 2010/2011-season wins by Patrik Sandell who was supported by the Swedish importer of Škoda. Hänninen, one of the squad's new members, has also fond memories of Baumschlager's team. He had a convincing win at the 2009 Finnish Rally in the S-WRC category while driving Baumschlager's Fabia Super 2000.
