Skoda to halt production after German scrapping scheme ends

Due to the steep drop in demand following the end of Germany scrappage scheme, Skoda is considering stopping production for two days in October. Jaroslav Cerny, Skoda spokesman, said that while it is not definite yet, Skoda is thinking of it as part of an annual stock survey that regularly takes place in the factory, usually at the end of October.

He added that it would be likely that Skoda would link the stoppage with the Oct. 28 public holiday. The days off would be Oct. 29-30, says Autonews. Most affected by the end of the scrappage scheme was the demand for the Fabia, its most popular model. The government incentives boosted Germany new car sales by 26.6% to 2.4 million units in the first eight months compared to the previous year's sales.
