Skoda to release a five-door hatchback version of the new Rapid

Skoda VisionD Concept

Skoda has announced that it will soon launch a traditional five-door hatchback version of the new Rapid. Sales and marketing chief Jürgen Stackmann said that this car will be shorter than the notchback Rapid and would come with a rear end that’s a lot like the Golf. The car was previewed at the Geneva motor show last year as the Vision D concept. It will get bolder wheel arches and thinner lights than those on the production Rapid. This last version is meant to be launched towards the end of 2013. Stackmann told Autocar that it won’t be an exact replica of the Vision D. Stackmann declined to divulge the new hatchback’s name but he did say that there won’t be a three-door version of the Rapid since the market volumes would be too low.
