The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG will be getting several upgrades, one of which is the GT label. The flagship supercar, which will now be named the SLS AMG GT, will have its power boosted. The naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V-8 engine delivers the same torque as the 2012 model with 479 lb-ft. But its horsepower is higher by 20 to 583hp. Its maximum velocity remains at 197mph but its acceleration time from zero to 60mph is faster by a tenth of a second to 3.6 seconds. Mercedes revised the seven-speed automatic, with manual-mode shift times “significantly” shortened plus a double-declutching function that’s more prominent. A more aggressive spring/damper tuning was used to stiffen up the AMG Adaptive Performance suspension.
The appearances of the SLS AMG GT Coupe and Roadster have been enhanced with the use of darkened headlights and red brake callipers. It utilizes the same 10-spoke forged alloy wheels covered in 265/35R19 up front and 295/30R20 in back just like the prior model. The standard designo interior package is available in quilted leather with three new color combinations -- mocha brown/porcelain, grey/porcelain, and mystic red/porcelain.
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT will start selling this fall but so far, the pricing information for the U.S. market hasn’t been revealed yet. The 2012 Coupe has a starting price of $192,175 while the Roadster is priced from $198,675. Destination costs are included in these prices. Meanwhile in Europe, the 2013 GT Coupe has a starting price of €204,608 ($267,018) and the Roadster is priced from €213,010 ($277,983).
