Expect to see a new, smaller SUV for Land Rover to go on sale in the third quarter of 2011. Land Rover made the announcement to dealers during a breakfast make meeting. Michael Levitan, chairman of the Land Rover Business Operations Council and COO of Long Island Automotive Group in New York, revealed that the SUV debuts at the Paris Auto Show this fall and will be introduced in the US this December at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The carmaker has yet to divulge specifications and prices for the new SUV, which is said to be based on the LRX concept. Levitan said that it can't be determined who the target market is of the SUV since the pricing has not been released yet.
Nonetheless, Dan Muggli, general manager of Land Rover Portland in Portland, Ore., said that any new product from Land Rover will drive people into centers. The Range Rover-branded LRX is highly anticipated because it will broaden the appeal of the lineup. Muggli said that this SUV is the most efficient vehicle it has ever offered.
According to Land Rover executives, the brand plans to spend 35 percent more on marketing this year compared with 2009. At the make meeting, new TV commercials were shown. These ads will air later in the first quarter and focus on Range Rover SUVs, according to Chris Marchand, executive vice president of marketing and sales at Land Rover North America. Land Rover is focusing into sponsorships and more grassroots marketing. Marchand revealed that Land Rover is a sponsor of the United States Equestrian Federation this year.
