Smart announces production of the ForTwo Electric Drive

2011 Smart ForTwo

After meeting with success in its trial run in the UK, Smart has established that they are going to produce the electric ForTwo in small production series. Daimler AG, the parent firm of Smart says that the initial deliveries of the zero-emission car should begin early in 2010. It was in December 2007 when the trials of the Smart ForTwo commenced with the involvement of universities, councils and energy firms.

It is claimed by the carmaker that the Electric Drive ForTwo, which is a 30kW motor, can power the car up to 30mph in 6.5 seconds and its energy economy is equivalent to 300mpg. It was also revealed by Smart that the second generation ForTwo Electric Drive will go through the same trials and the car is expected to come with better performance, longer range and shorter time to charge the batteries.
