Spy pictures show a “three-door” style for third-generation BMW Mini

Spy shots of the third-generation BMW Mini reveal that the car could have a Clubman-style third door, if the left-hand-drive example represents the production version. Close examination of the pictures appear to show a second shutline behind the driver’s door. Although the shutline seems to be a line of tape applied over the disguise, it could be noted the driver’s door is also rather shorter than that of a standard three-door Mini. People were not happy about BMW’s use of a single, rear-hinged ‘club door’ on the Clubman, partly because it was on the wrong side for right-hand-drive vehicles. BMW, however, is known to be dedicated on the principle. BMW will use twin club doors on production version of the Paceman Coupé and on the second-generation Clubman. The company, meanwhile, announced that its tiny Mini Rocketman concept will not go into production because it cannot reduce the BMW/Mini front drive platform for a 3.4-meter city car.
