Spearheading the new model lineup from SsangYong is the recently launched Korrando. Within 12 months, the Korean SUV and crossover specialist will add a larger SUV to the range that is meant to rival the Hyundai Santa Fe. It’s likely that this new car will display the Musso nameplate and will be offered in both front and four-wheel-drive variants. Powering this vehicle is a new 2.2-litre diesel engine that is engineered by SssangYong. It will also be available with a Merc-sourced four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol engine.
SsangYong expects to launch a small SUV, which sources say is intended to directly compete with the Nissan Juke. This model, which will be built on an all-new platform, is likely to be produced in India in light of the recent acquisition by Indian SUV specialist Mahindra.
In the future, SsangYong will also be replacing the large Rexton 4x4. Sources assert that this car is likely to still have a traditional body on frame 4x4 since there remains a global market for a model that offers exceptional off-road abilities and a large towing capacity. [via autocar]
