Subaru at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show

Subaru Logo

At the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, Subaru wants to show its commitment to the protection of the environment. At the Subaru stand, we should expect to see a whole new range of eco innovations, including a Boxer-hybrid concept car and an electric city car. The world's first Boxer-hybrid powerplant, paired with Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, will be seen on the Hybrid Tourer Concept. The two electric motors will be working alongside a 2.0 liter turbocharged boxer engine, featuring direct injection. Powering the car are lithium-ion batteries - a 10 kW unit at the front and a 20 kW one at the rear of the vehicle.

This powerplant is mated to Subaru's Lineatronic automatic transmission. While the electric motors are used for the start-up and low speed driving, the internal combustion kicks in when more power is required. The car is inspired by Subaru's core design philosophy, offering an impressive look and generous cabin space, accessible through huge gullwing doors.

In this same green movement, Subaru will is preparing to introduce the Stella EV electric plug-in vehicle. This uses a 40kW lithium-ion battery pack that offers a 90 km driving range. One of the best features about this vehicle is its quick charging system, which only takes 15 minutes to recharge the battery at an 80% capacity. For a full charge, the car can be plugged into a standard household outlet (240V) for five hours.
