After having experienced its best US sales month ever last August, Subaru of America Inc. has decided to build more US zone offices and expects to have a dozen by the end of 2009. Currently, it has three offices located in metropolitan Los Angeles and Dallas (opened in 2007) and in Columbia, Md. (opened in early 2009). Cities where the automaker plans to open offices at are in: Philadelphia; Atlanta; Orlando, Fla.; Chicago; Minneapolis; Columbus, Ohio; Denver; Portland; Ore.; and San Francisco/Sacramento. The zones will report to Subaru's regional headquarters in Westampton, N.J.; Itasca, Ill.; and Aurora, Colo. Spokesman Michael McHale said that since it began operating in the US, Subara has had regional offices. It only started with zones in 2007. He said that zones allow better understanding of markets that is different from regional headquarters, as Orlando differs from its New Jersey hub location. Definitely, it was Subaru's success this year that prompted it to open the locations this fall and winter. Its August U.S. sales rose 51.5% from 2008, making its eight-month sales total 11.2% higher than last year´s. The only other brand ahead of its 2008 U.S. pace is Kia, which was up 3% through August.
