2011 Impreza WRX STI Rally Car

Subaru Rally Team USA made a grand presentation of its new 2011 Impreza WRX STI rally cars at the Pala Raceway in California. During practice sessions for the ESPN Summer C Games 16, the team offered full-throttle passenger rides for the members of the motoring media. This event is scheduled to take place on July 31 at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The show was attended by Travis Pastrana, Dave Mirra and the new teammate, European Ralycross Champion Steve Isachsen. A stock 2011 Subaru Impreza WRS STI was used for the project. Vermont SportsCar, the team's technical partner, stripped the interior and had the shell lightened and fully seam welded for more strength. A T45 steel multipoint roll cage was added.

Installed on the car were a competition Kevlar fuel cell, carbon/Kevlar RECARO seats, a custom dash, carbon fiber interior door panels and an onboard Fire Suppression System. The vehicle received several technical modifications, including: heavy-duty rally dampers, engine tweaks that push the 2.0 liter supercharged unit to 500 hp and 560 lb-ft f torque, a new clutch and extra features like launch control, a turbo anti-lag system and a hydraulic handbrake.

The rally vehicle also features a 5-speed, close-ratio dog-engagement gearbox that enables the driver to shift without releasing the clutch. It also got a driver controlled center differential (DDCD) similar to the stock one, except that it uses a racing ECU. The exterior wasn´t made all that much more different. It only received mud flaps, an aluminum skid palte, roof-mounted carbon fiber air scoops, a larger vertically slotted wing and auxiliary HID lights.
