Subaru’s future models to get inspiration from Impreza Design Concept

Subaru Impreza Design Concept

Subaru’s whole range is expected to be influenced by its Impreza saloon concept for the upcoming years. Subaru has a new motto: ‘Confidence in Motion’ and this is portrayed by its new styling language that’s seen on the Impreza concept. The main features include a strong, Volvo S60-like shoulder line, a distinctive hexagonal grille opening and a ‘wing’ that cuts across the frontal area of the car. According to Subaru’s chief designer, Osamu Namba, the goal of the project had been to “provide the future design direction for the brand.” Namba explained that even if it bears the “Impreza” name, it refers to all models.

But he disclosed that the company had the next generation of Impreza in mind. He said that it isn’t a “precise guide” to the future of this model, but it indicates where Impreza will go. Namba said that the concept is meant to signal that Subaru will have a more cohesive design now compared to the past when its design language has been inconsistent. He said that this has actually been the first attempt to “unite the language across the brand.”

And because of this, all of Subaru’s forthcoming cars will feature the hexagonal grille treatment and what Namba refers to as “hawk eye” headlights. The cars will also use the concept’s lower, wider stance. For the taller, more rugged models (including the Outback and Tribeca), Subaru may fit more than one horizontal ‘wing’ motif across the front grille. In addition, Namba said that the concept’s new cues didn’t have anything to do with the WRX/STi design language. [via autocar]
