Subaru’s new concept will preview the next-generation Impreza

Subaru’s concept to be shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show offers a glimpse of the next-generation Impreza, according to an Autocar report. The concept named the CIM (for Confidence in Motion) is being billed to showcase a new design language. It will also present a new green technology, which is believed to be a hybrid powertrain. The CIM is expected to be different from Subaru’s new coupé, a joint project with Toyota. This teaser image from Subaru displays a compact design with an arcing roofline and high-set ‘bustle’ boot but unlike a coupé, the roofline hints that it’s probably gong to be a four-door as it doesn’t rake sharply from the center line to the boot lid.
From the teaser image, we also see hallmark extended arches, which seem to make the design more muscular. It also appears to take inspiration from the WRX and STi versions of previous-generation Impreza models.
There are rumors that a new Impreza is slated for production late next year. This means that the current Impreza, which was unveiled at the New York show in April 2007, would only have a relatively short lifespan of four years. Subaru had high hopes for the current Impreza, a five-door European hatch that was designed to boost mainstream sales. The model was a dud, likely because it had all-wheel drive (which has low fuel efficiency) and it didn’t offer a diesel engine at launch.
