It’s not a secret anymore that Subaru is working on a sporty coupe, a sister model of the Toyota FT-86, which will be launched in 2012 as a 2013 model. This new car is set to be an image booster for Subaru.
Sources confirm the fact that Subaru’s version will differ from the Toyota. It will be a rear-drive coupe, powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine or by the more powerful 2.5-liter turbocharged engine found on the Subaru Impreza WRX STI.
Subaru also has big plans with the other models from its lineup. The Impreza compact sedan and five-door model will receive a redesign for the 2012 model year and will also introduce a hybrid version. The hybrid technology is expected to come from Toyota, as Toyota Motor Corp. owns about 17 percent of Subaru. The Forester will also receive a new-generation version which will be introduced later this year at the LA Auto Show.
The car will receive a refined 2.5-liter engine which will deliver 10 percent better fuel economy than the current engine. The Tribeca, Subaru’s oldest model, will be freshened in the 2012 model year. Regarding the Outback and Legacy, these models are only a year old and no changes are expected until 2014.
