Super-eco version of Citroen C6 in the works

Building big executive cars is one of Citroen's areas of expertise but now, it aims to make a super-eco version of the C6 executive saloon that claims to have a CO2 output of less than 100g/km. The car will be fitted with PSA's new diesel hybrid drivetrain including other aerodynamic modifications to make it more economical. A similar design to the 3008 hybrid concept will be used. Powering the front wheels is a transversely mounted 163bhp turbodiesel engine, fitted with an alternator/generator and a stop-start system. Also featured is a six-speed "robotized" self-shifting manual box.
Replacing the C6's rear suspension is a new setup of a single electric motor that drives the rear wheels. The electronic control systems and a small battery pack will be taking up space at the rear. Figuring largely in the eco C6 are its aerodynamic improvements namely the low-resistance tires, a flat underbody, and semi-enclosed rear wheels. Citroen will be aiming for a Cd figure of 0.24 or below.
Sources say that Citroen was considering a suggestion that the car will get the CX moniker: the French version of "Cd" and the name of the company's 1974 aero-influenced flagship. Due to the flexibility of the new Peugeot-Citroen "hang-on" hybrid drivetrain, eco versions of the C4/308 family of vehicles and the C5/407 replacement will also be heading for production.
