The current general manager of Buick-GMC, Susan Docherty, will replace Mark LaNeve as GM's new vice president of U.S. sales. LaNeve will resign effective Oct. 15 for a job outside the auto industry. In the meantime, the slot that Docherty leaves will remain open. CEO Fritz Henderson said that Docherty, who assumes the post on Oct 16, "brings a fresh perspective to the job and has an extraordinarily high level of energy." Moreover, Docherty will also become a member of GM's executive committee, says Autonews. Henderson explains that it's imperative that the replacement is a GM insider since the dealership network and sales role is complicated and would be difficult for an outsider to learn. Henderson said that it's especially necessary since the company is going through a dealer restructuring. Referring to LaNeve, the CEO has only good things to say: LaNeve has done "a heck of a job" as head of sales since March 2005 and should be given "enormous credit."
