New Nissan Micra coming to the Geneva Motor Show

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

2011 Nissan MicraFans of the Nissan Micra will be ecstatic to know that the new model will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this March and that it will have two more variants, according to company insiders.

The first versions of the new supermini are expected to arrive in May in India, where the car is manufactured at an all-new factory based in Chenai. A saloon version will be launched a year later. However, it is unlikely to make it to the UK. Furthermore, a mini-MPV that has many of the same mechanicals and built on the new V (versatile) platform will appear in 2012. There are also reports gathered by Autocar from insider sources stating that the next generation Renault Clio will be based on the V-platform and could be built in India too. This is a move is seen to upset fiercely patriotic French buyers. Other Renaults that are set to be produced in India include the Koleos soft-roader (currently built at the company’s Samsung factory in South Korea) and a version of the forthcoming Fluence saloon. Both of these models are likely to be destined for Asian markets only.

Preview: 2011 Nissan Micra

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

2011 Nissan MicraThese are the long-awaited pictures of the next-generation supermini, the Nissan Micra, which will have its official debut next year. Several changes were observed, the most obvious of which were the addition of a MINI-style grille and Fiat Punto-like headlights.

Nissan gave the Micra its all-new V-platform (V stands for versatile) that provides more cabin space and is lighter. Included in the plans is an MPV version of the Micra, which replaces the popular Note in late 2011. The Micra was made more efficient due to Nissan’s maneuverings to make this model 50 kgs lighter than the outgoing car. Another advantage is that the car has better handling. The model boasts to have more room as well as higher quality. To maximize fuel economy, Nissan designed an all-new three-cylinder engine that’s mated to a fresh CVT auto gearbox. Also featured is a stop-start system. Who can resist the Micra? Purchasing one adds up to weight savings. In addition, a sub-120g/km CO2 output is anticipated, as are fuel returns of 60mpg. Be on the lookout for the five-door version in October 2010. Prices are anticipated to be competitive with other brands.
