Friday, October 23rd, 2009

2010 Audi A5German Design Council announced today that the Audi A5 Coupe will receive the 2010 Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany. Of course, this is not something new for Audi because this represents its fourth award for design, after the Audi A4 Avant, the Audi A3 and the Audi A2.

“Audi’s Design team and I are thrilled by this accolade. It convincingly acknowledges the Audi brand’s design excellence. The A5 Coupé boasts the genes of a design icon, and it’s great that the judges also see it that way,” said Stefan Sielaff, Head of Audi Design. Since its launch, back in June 2007 the Audi sold 112,000 units of the A5 Coupe. “The Audi A5 Coupé continues the tradition of the classic two-door sport/touring coupé: executed powerfully and boldly via elements of Audi’s progressive design language. The A5 epitomizes sportiness and elegance. Driving it also offers outstanding handling and excellent comfort on long journeys.” said Wolfgang Egger, Head of Audi Group Design.

2009 Audi A5The price of cutting a dash in the Audi A5 coupe has been further lowered by the economical new 53 mpg A5 2.0 TDI, which is currently available to order now in front-wheel-drive and Quattro all-wheel-drive configurations valued from £28,485 OTR (€35,250 or $44,850), and will reach markets in the UK beginning in March 2009. Its opening also correspond with the unveiling of the even more arresting S line specification for all A5 versions, offered at a premium of £2,250 (€2,784 or $3,540) over standard trim.

Following its performance coupe positioning, the A5 utilizes the most powerful, 170 hp variant of the latest generation 2.0-liter TDI unit originally seen in the A4 Saloon and Avant. Improved by a sophisticated common rail piezo fuel injection system, the high-tech unit makes its remarkable 350 Nm torque output available from just 1,750 rpm, and by taking full advantage of this through the standard six-speed manual transmission the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration can be attained in just 8.3 seconds in the front-wheel-drive model.
