Breaking News: Cadillac Converj will be built

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Cadillac ConverjGeneral Motors Co. will soon be producing the Cadillac Converj plug-in concept car that was introduced earlier this year at the Detroit auto show, according to The Detroit News. Unnamed sources said that the plan to produce the Converj was presented last week to GM’s board of directors. However, GM has yet to set a production date.

Before these reports, it was widely believed that the future of the Converj concept had been in limbo. The Converj uses the same technology as GM’s Chevrolet Volt plug-in electric vehicle, which will be introduced late next year. Cadillac has so far not commented on the matter. Lexus offering $10k incentive for a 2009 LS 600h L! Cadillac follows it!

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

2010 Lexus LS 600hTo increase hybrid sales now especially since the 2010 models are coming in, automakers are offering incredible incentives. The past year has been terrible for the industry but more so for the segment on premium hybrid-electric vehicles.

Factors that made this worse include low gas prices and lower demand in the luxury market. A few days ago, Toyota Motor Corp.’s Lexus premium division, owner of the market’s most-expensive hybrid in its LS 600h L, introduced a $10,000 dealer-cash incentive on the ‘09 model of the flagship hybrid. Toyota also offers a bounty of $1,000 to any sales associate selling a 2009 LS 600h L, which starts at $106,035. Continued after the jump!

GM thinking at the Cadillac Converj production… again!

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Cadillac Converj ConceptThings are looking up for the Cadillac Converj once again. Last spring, the Converj Concept was vetoed due to internal opposition from executives and the U.S. government. Former GM North America President Troy Clark and Former Cadillac-Hummer-Saab chief Mark McNabb were both opposed to the idea of an electric car for Cadillac.

With the government aiming to minimize its role in GM, along with the departures of Clark and McNabb, it seems that plans for a Cadillac Converj production car are being contemplated. BusinessWeek reports that Bob Lutz and several others inside the company are pushing for it citing that the Converj would help Cadillac’s image as a technology leader. Continued after the jump!

Cadillac working on a 3-Series competitor

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

2009 Cadillac CTSCadillac is going full-speed with its plans to create a new entry-level sports saloon that will rival the BMW 3-Series. This detail was disclosed during General Motors’ announcement that it will come out with 25 new models by 2011.

This entry-level Cadillac will be available with rear or optional four-wheel drive. GM hopes to eat into the market of BMW and Mercedes. GM President and CEO Fritz Henderson said that the company is determined to repeat what the CTS has achieved in this high-volume and highly-competitive segment. He said that it’s possible he will be bringing the new car to the UK. Cadillac is preparing five new models, including the all-new SRX and CTS Sport Wagon, while Chevrolet has 10. Buick and GMC are also preparing 10 new cars, including a Buick plug-in hybrid compact crossover in 2011.

Cadillac CTS Coupe coming in May 2010

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Cadillac CTS Coupe ConceptIf it hasn’t been obvious to you yet, General Motors’ Cadillac brand has been trying to make up for its lost glory by hitting the public with one new model after another. The Cadillac brand was self-proclaimed to be The Standard of the World, and for a time, it deserved that honor.

In the last 40 years however, it hasn’t been consistently proving that it stood out against the competition in terms of quality and innovation. Recently, we’ve witnessed the unveiling of the new 2010 SRX crossover as well as the 2010 CTS Sport Wagon. By May 2010, the sporty CTS coupe, which has the standard and high-performance versions, will arrive in showrooms. The CTS lineup gets GM’s new 270 horsepower direct-injected V6 engine as the new base powertrain option, while the former 3.6-liter unit is now optional. A GM spokesman disclosed that the two-door CTS would get the 2011 model year designation and would share powertrains with the CTS Sedan and the Sport Wagon. The coupe had been set for release this summer but GM’s bankruptcy had led to several product-planning changes.

Cadillac’s next-generation flagship sedan receives green light

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Cadillac LogoNow that the new GM is on track, plans for Cadillac’s next-generation flagship sedan are advancing too. Rumors were heard of a Zeta-based vehicle sharing Pontiac G8 heritage or an XTS-badged RWD sedan.

The latest reports are that the Zeta-based solution has been dropped and that the new flagship, which is presumed to be named the XTS, will be riding on a lengthened version of the Sigma platform used for the CTS. The extra wheelbase and rear-seat room necessary for a full-size executive sedan would be a remarkable change from the CTS. Production of this new flagship car is expected to start December 2011 while an auto show debut is anticipated a few months before that. The car will be built in GM’s Oshawa, Ontario plant, as will the next-gen Buick Regal and Chevrolet Impala. Already being built there is the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. Be also on the lookout for the Regal, which might be renamed Invicta for the US and the 2010 Buick LaCrosse, which boasts of a 2.0L four-cylinder turbo, a hybrid version and the 2.4L-3.6L range.

Cadillac Converj receives green light

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Cadillac Converj ConceptGM astonished the crowd at the Detroit Auto Show last January with a concept coupe designated the Cadillac Converj. Sharing the same Voltec platform with the Chevrolet Volt, the Converj was perceived as GM’s way to leverage the expensive ER-EV drivetrain in a car that could sell at a premium price to recover part of its development expenses.

There are reports coming out that the Converj has a go signal for production in 2011, just a year after the launch of the Volt. It was confirmed by Bob Kruse of GM during the Detroit event that the production model of the Converj will most probably utilize the same powertrain as the Volt, but will have varying calibrations to permit a bit higher performance level than the Volt. If the Converj pushes through, its measurements must undergo some changes for it to utilize the same under-structure as the Volt. The biggest obstacle to building the Converj, however, is the lack of funds. If GM will not be given financial aid, it won’t have enough cash to realize its plans for the new Converj coupe.
