Dodge Circuit EV production receives green light

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Dodge Circuit EVChrysler will be launching its first all-electric vehicle — a high-performance sports model — next year, according to Lou Rhodes, Chrysler’s ENVI division president. He added that the car will be a production version of the Dodge Circuit EV, which rivals the Tesla Roadster in performance but with a lower price.

The Dodge Circuit EV Concept was viewed in last January’s Detroit Auto Show. The production version would have its chassis assembled by Lotus in Europe, then shipped to the U.S. for the electric drivetrain install. For now, the prototypes are being tested. Chrysler doesn’t have a release date yet. A previous CNNMoney report had said that after the sports car, Chrysler will be adding electric sedans, SUVs and crossover models, some of which will also be based on Fiat platforms.
