Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Don Garlits Dodge Challenger Drag PakProduction begins this summer for the 2010 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak. Notably, this is the second time that Dodge has created a limited-edition Challenger that cannot be used on city roads.

Dodge has removed features that would slow the car down and these include airbags, power windows and an audio system. Dodge removed car parts that total to about 1,000 pounds. The only place that the Challenger could be used is on the drag strip. The car is equipped with a 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 and a choice of a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. Chicago Auto Show: 2010 Dodge Challenger Furious Fuchsia

Friday, February 12th, 2010

2010 Dodge Challenger Furious FuschiaLike many other carmakers before it, Chrysler has turned to looking to offer its retro-styled muscle cars in various “special edition” models. To attract interest, Chrysler has gone through its old lineup of eye-catching exterior colors.

Very recently, Chrysler has launched the Dodge “Furious Fuchsia” Challenger in Chicago. The hue is patterned after a “High Impact” color offered in 1970 called “Panther Pink” (or “Moulin Rouge” on Plymouth models). This new color isn’t actually as pink as the original but it serves the purpose of grabbing your attention, especially when highlighted with the R/T Classic’s white stripes. Furious Fuchsia is available on both R/T Classic (priced from $35,140) and SRT8 (priced from $45,150) variants of the Challenger. Dealers begin taking orders next month. There will be a wait since these hot pink Challengers won’t be built until May. Photo gallery after the jump!

Chrysler launches the first leg of an ad push touting its Dodge Charger

Friday, January 29th, 2010

2010 Dodge ChargerChrysler Group is hoping that humor sells as it launches the first leg of an ad promoting its muscle car, the Dodge Charger, with a trio of male-oriented 30-second spots.

The ads, which were created by Dodge’s new agency, Wieden & Kennedy, each have in them a gleaming black Charger posed atop a parking deck and the sun beating off the windows. The ads are voiced by Michael C. Hall, the star of Showtime’s hit series “Dexter” who then proceeds to be poetic about manly things. Just this past weekend, the funniest of the three ads, dubbed “Man Bag,” broke during the NFC Championship game broadcast. In the ad, Hall recounts all the things the Dodge Charger isn’t: “man sandals,” an “exfoliant with added moisturizer” or a “yoga class.” Expect to see more of these teaser spots that culminate at the Super Bowl on Feb. 7, when Chrysler, the only domestic car advertiser in the game, will show a new 60-second spot.

Dodge will air a 60-second commercial on the Super Bowl telecast this year

Friday, January 15th, 2010

2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8At the Super Bowl telecast for this year, one of the most anticipated is a 60-second commercial from the Dodge brand. Olivier Francois, lead executive for marketing of all Chrysler Group brands, said that the ad “sends a message of irreverence, passion for cars and fun to drive.”

The creator of the ad is the new advertising agency for Dodge brand, Wieden + Kennedy, which is famous for coming up with Nike’s “Just Do It” campaign. Chrysler Group’s brands have not had a national ad on the Super Bowl for several years. The last national spot during a Super Bowl was in 2005 and featured the Dodge Magnum. In recent years, it had only run regional commercials during the game. Under new management led by Fiat, Chrysler has turned its advertising strategy upside down. It dropped longtime ad agency BBDO, which handled ads for all brands, and appointed individual agencies for each of the brands.

Dodge keeping its muscle cars in Europe! Other vehicles may become Fiats!

Monday, December 7th, 2009

2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8In relation to Fiat S.p.A.’s goal to maximize the synergies possible within the combined groups’ six mass-market brands, it has chosen to sell more popular cars under the Dodge brand while lesser known products will be sold under the Fiat brand.

Fiat S.p.A. has a 20% stake in the Chrysler Group, which owns Dodge. Under this plan, iconic American muscle cars such as the Challenger and Charger will remain under Dodge while the Journey crossover and the Nitro SUV, which are due in Europe in 2011, will be sold as Fiats. In an interview with Automotive News Europe last month, Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said that the Challenger and Charger cannot be turned into anything else as they are “by definition American vehicles” and as such will remain Dodge worldwide. 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR sets new lap record at Laguna Seca

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACRDodge estimates that about 500 units will be produced for the 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10. Historically, the Dodge Viper has always been a raw sports car and for 2010, the carmaker made the most minimal of changes. The 2010 model uses the same 600-hp, 8.4-liter V-10 engine that debuted in the 2008 model. Many of its performance specifications are the same as well. The car is able to go from 0 to 60 mph in under 4 seconds and it can go a quarter-mile in 11 seconds. Continued after the jump!

HPP Daytona based on Dodge Challenger

Friday, November 20th, 2009

HPP Daytona Dodge ChallengerFor most people, the Dodge Challenger already looks quite retro but the tuners at Heide Performance Products have decided to emphasize that look with its HPP Daytona package. Essentially, it is a Dodge Charger Daytona re-imagined on a Challenger chassis. The HPP Daytona was first shown to the public at the SEMA Show a few weeks ago.

It is basically a Challenger R/T with the 5.7-liter HEMI that had been dolled-up a bit. Styling cues of the classic Charger were added to the new Challenger but performance wasn’t tweaked. It’s intriguing to see how the new nose cone fits perfectly with the new Challenger’s lines. The faux side details are unfortunate but its monster wings are very impressive.
