Jaguar’s plans include a fastback, sporting estate version of the XF and for this version to enter production in 2012. This project coincides with the facelift of the XF, changes of which will include a bolder grille inspired by the new 2010 Jaguar XJ.

Instead of being market leader, the XF now trails its main rivals. The Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-class Estate are all selling well in the UK with the XF being the third bestseller in its class. Thankfully, the load-lugging X-type had been ditched and now the idea of an estate has become more acceptable. The XF won’t be similar to the Volvo load lugger since it will have elegant styling and will be more practical. The key is said to be the new four-cylinder diesel engine currently under development. Small-capacity four-cylinder diesels account for 50% of sales among rival executive models in the UK. Meanwhile, the proportion is even higher for the more practical estate body shape. Nothing much is known about the engine. So far, it is believed to be a re-engineered variant of the 2.2-liter Ford/PSA unit used by Land Rover. Peak power is expected to be close to 200bhp in its most powerful version, possibly with twin turbochargers.

Auto Motor und Sport announced that a new concept car which will preview the Jaguar XF Estate will make its debut in September, at the Frankfurt Motor Show! The production version of the vehicle will be revealed six months later, in 2011 with a design close to the concept.

Jaguar is also planning a a XFR Estate which will carry the 5.0-liter V8 engine capable to develop 510 hp. This vehicle will be a direct competitor to the Bmw M5 Touring. Other versions of the vehicle be powered by the same petrol and diesel engines found on the current XF.
