Tata Motors doubles its January sales thanks to Jaguar and Land Rover

2010 Jaguar XKRGlobal sales for Tata Motors Ltd., India’s largest vehicles maker, in January almost doubled to 85,714 units, compared to sales from a year earlier. Included in this figure were the sales of UK-based luxury brands Jaguar and Land Rover that nearly tripled in January to 16,269 units from a year ago. The increase is partially attributed to the weak unit sales in January 2009 during the height of the global financial crisis. Meanwhile, Tata Motors’ domestic sales, including trucks, buses and cars, rose 77%.

Land Rover sales up for the third consecutive month

2010 Land Rover DiscoveryLand Rover sales are on a terrific run, after having recorded a rise for the third straight month. In particular, October sales rose 89% on last year’s levels when it sold 2855 combined units of its five models. In 2009, the firm has already sold 28,042 new models so far.

It’s believed that sales were boosted by the launch of new versions of the Discovery, Range Rover and Ranger Rover Sport and new 59 registration plates. John Edwards, managing director, Land Rover UK , said that the market was up over 30% that the company recorded an 89% rise in October versus last year. Edwards said that this is a demonstration of the success of the new 2010 model year vehicles. He said that this also proves the importance of having new products in an ever competitive market. Ranger Rover Sport sales were up 210% on this time last year, while Range Rover sales were up 43%. Discovery sales saw a 112% rise, while there were also rises for Freelander and Defender sales, which were up 55% and 25% respectively.UK year-on-year new car sales were up 31.6% in October, with one in five models sold in the UK being under scrappage.
