Toyota won’t make any profit from the Lexus LFA

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Lexus LFA There won’t be any profit to be made from the Lexus LFA due to the high cost incurred from developing and constructing it. However, insiders say that the company’s aim was to create a halo car for the brand. And Toyota did just that after spending six years in development.

Only 500 LFAs will be produced, selling for €375,000 each. In the UK, only 17 LFAs will be sold. So far Lexus has taken two orders. The car is packed with technology, including the bespoke engine with a 9000rpm redline. Powered by a 552bhp 4.8-litre V10, the LFA is able to hit 62mph in 3.7sec and has a top speed of 202mph. Carbonfiber-reinforced plastic is extensively used by Toyota for the chassis construction and body panels. All the parts on the LFA is new, with only five parts found as well on other Toyota and Lexus products. Photo gallery after the jump!

More extreme version of the Lexus LFA in the works

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Lexus LFAAs you may know already, Lexus finally launched the LFA supercar at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show and made quite a buzz. What we are going to tell you now is even more interesting: a more extreme version of the LFA will be built by Lexus by the end od 2012, when the production of the 500 units will be finished.

The powerful version will resemble the Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series, which means that will be less comfortable but it will deliver better performances on the racing track. For those who don’t know, the LFA carries a V10 engine capable to deliver 560 hp at 8700 rpm and 480 Nm of torque from 3700 to 9000 rpm. With these numbers the car can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) I 3.7 seconds while the top speed achieved is 325 km/h (202 mph). Even the price is extreme: € 375,000 on the European market and $375,000 in the United States.

Lexus LFA gets crystallized for the Fashion Week in Milan

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Crystallized Lexus LFAThe Japanese supercar, Lexus LF-A (or LFA as it is known in the American Patent and Trademark Office), will receive a totally transparent version, that will be exhibited in Milan during Fashion Week. The car has gone past the concept stage since it has already been observed testing at Nurburgring, but production plans still remains unclear at the moment.

This, however, does not prevent the Japanese firm from taking full advantage of their investment at the upcoming Milan Fashion Week and the car promises that it will indeed be a sight to behold. Although the available teaser photos are somewhat lacking in illumination, a fully lighted presentation would undoubtedly show the internal organs of the car. The LF-A comes with a 5.0-liter V10 engine that can generate in excess of 500 hp (373 kW). When it reaches production there will only be 100 units that will be built with each one costing in excess of $200,000. Photo gallery after the jump!
